Identifying Moving Problems

4 Things You Might Not Think To Do Before Moving Day

When you're preparing for a move, there are so many things to think about and plan for that it's almost inevitable that you'll forget something. As you're making your checklist of tasks to accomplish before your big day, however, there are a few things you may want to add that you otherwise probably wouldn't consider!

Schedule Your Change of Postal Address

In order to have your mail forwarded to your new address, you'll need to officially update your mailing address with the United States Postal Service. This can be done either online at the USPS website or in-person at any of your local post office branches. You can schedule your mail forwarding for a future date, so this is not something you should wait until after the move to take care of!

Stop at a Local ATM

Hopefully, you've already taken care of hiring a local moving service to assist you in transporting your belongings from point A to point B. Keep in mind, however, that most of these services do not include a tip/gratuity in their quotes, so you should plan and tip accordingly for the services your movers provide. Generally, it's considered fair to tip your movers between 15% and 20%, so don't forget to take cash out at a local ATM prior to their arrival.

Book a Deep-Cleaning Service

You want your new place to be clean and pristine before you begin moving your belongings into it, so if you haven't done so already, you might want to consider booking a professional deep cleaning of your new home. This will give you one less thing to worry about once you move in, and will allow you to get settled in and start enjoying your new space more quickly.

Take Measurements of the New Place

Last but not least, make sure to take measurements of exterior doors at your new place before the move! Otherwise, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise when you learn that sofa you just bought isn't going to fit through the doorway. A little preparation here will go a long way in saving you from these types of headaches on your move-in day.

These are just a few things to add to your growing list that you might not have thought of, but that will make your life a lot easier. From there, you can be better prepared for your upcoming move.
